Mother’s Day Gift Guide for First-Time Moms

Mother’s day is just around the corner, and of course we are all looking for the perfect items to get those mamas, who are brand new. Well, this gift guide features items I love, that I recommend buying for any new mamas this spring. Some of these are brands that sent me items to review and use, while others are just one’s that I love, and would recommend as a gift for new moms. Mother’s Day Gift Guide For First-Time Moms: Binxy Baby: I can’t believe I am just now getting one of these. I lugged that car seat around with my first baby everywhere. What was I thinking? This is by far, one of the best inventions. I keep it in the pocket behind the driver’s seat of my van, that way I always have it ready. It clasps on to the sides of the cart very simply, and…

Soft, Washable Baby Rug by Lorena Canals

Can I tell you how much I love baby items because they are so soft and cute? The problem for me is that I never want to put my baby in the beautiful items because I’m afraid of blowouts and spit ups. I was super excited when Lorena Canals Rugs offered to send me a complimentary rug to review, and add to our home. I had never heard of these rugs before, but when I took a look at their site, to see if it was a product myself and you, as my readers would be interested in, here’s what I found: These rugs are ALL MACHINE-WASHABLE…this is so awesome because I have two toddler boys and one baby. Enough said there. I also saw that these rugs were picked by Vogue as a top baby product for celebrity nurseries. We all want to be a little celebrity-like don’t we?…

How I get Beachy Waves in 10 Minutes

The messy bun is basically the best mom-hair style ever. It looks cute, and it is supposed to be messy. The other hairstyle I love is the messy, beachy waves look. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it always looks cute. Contrary to popular belief, it actually is super quick to do as well! Here’s How I Get Beachy Waves in 10 Minutes: First, I wash my hair literally twice a week. My bangs I do more, but my hair is dry and bleached, so it doesn’t need much. Once I do some beachy waves, then I just have to touch them up throughout the week. Also, when you have some of these curls in your hair, your messy buns look better and ponytails fuller, so it’s worth your 10 minutes. Air Dry Your Hair, Or Do A Rough Blow Dry: Okay, first step to making this hairstyle fast…

To The Mom with Multiple Little Ones: You Will Survive

I let my toddlers watch Cops a while back. We were out of town, and for whatever reason our cable wasn’t working. We had a long day, I was tired, the baby was tired, and I couldn’t wrangle my wild stallions any longer. I needed some TV-time to get us to BED time. “Bad Boys, Bad Boys….Watcha gonna do…” that song is still one they love. Luckily they didn’t really understand what was happening, they were just mesmerized by the police lights and sirens and take down. I was desperate. Having multiple little ones is hard work. They all wine and cry at different times, so it feels like no one is happy ever. Its a world of complete chaos, and some days are so fun, while others are so hard. When you have multiple little ones (mine are four, two and 4 months) there is always some kind of…

Important Spring Break Beach Items for Babies & Toddlers

There is nothing more I love than a sandy, beachy-bottomed baby. I mean its the best! We’ve been really enjoying ourselves this month visiting family on an early spring break. Finally, three babies later, I have compiled a great list of the items I actually use on the beach. It’s easy to get carried away and buy everything you might need. Don’t do that. Here’s what you really need, and what I actually use. I find that traveling light with the essentials makes me happier. If  I’m spending an hour packing the car and another hour unloading at the beach, my kids are asleep in the car seats before we even get there.  I don’t have as many photos as I’d like because I am so busy when we’re at the beach! I look away for a second, and I swear my children are raiding another kids sand castle or…

A Letter To My Defiant and Brilliant Child

Hello sweet child. I am writing you this letter today because I walked out on you and everyone yesterday, and I want you to know why. I want you to look back on that night and understand it was because I love you so much. I walked out the door, and I kept walking because I needed to breath and think about why we were butting heads. See, my precious, you are everything to me. You made me a mother. We aren’t seeing eye to eye right now, and I am wracking my brain and reading books to understand you better. I want you to know how special you are. You are incredibly smart. Your mind races from one idea to the next, and you put together the mysteries of the world in the most beautiful, philosophical theories. Your appetite for fun, adventure and danger are insatiable, and sometimes I’m…

5 Unconventional Indoor Activities For Busy Toddler Boys

After the holidays, we find that the new toys become old, the busy schedules fall silent, and all the holiday activities have been done and enjoyed. Its still cold, wet and not friendly outside. We get cabin fever faster than I can poor my coffee, so out of sheer desperation, I’ve come up with some fun and light-hearted indoor activities my boys love! My Top 5 Unconventional, Indoor Activities For Busy Toddlers: Pillow Fight: This really ends up being a pillow attack on myself. The boys love playing on the bed, throwing the pillows around and basically getting to show me their muscles and strength by nailing me in the face. The best part about this game is they really get some energy out. That is pretty much the goal with every activity: make them tired. Raising Boys to be Brothers and Learning What Brotherly Love Is

We all know the book, Where The Wild Things Are. The imaginary, monster/adventure world describes the mind of a boy almost perfectly. They are adventure-seeking, monster-loving, little kings. They want to fight, take charge and beat things up. Boys are competitive little animals, and it’s not necessarily natural for them to be loving and kind to their brother(s). Brotherly love is a unique concept, but I’ve learned some things that help me understand and cultivate a loving relationship between my two boys. Tackling Is Love: Think of tackling, shoving or karate chopping like hugs and kisses for brothers. At first, it looks like it could be a knock out session, but there’s no anger. There is pure love and play. They absolutely love wrestling each other. Because they are still little, they haven’t learned appropriate boundaries to avoid someone (the little one) getting hurt. He usually cries for a second,…

I Stopped Playing With My Boys

There was a day when I would play Thomas the Train, orchestrate a major Dinosaur hunt, and race cars all over the house. I would narrate detailed stories and games, bringing my boys (mostly the oldest) into extravagant, make-believe worlds. Until, it had to stop. I didn’t realize the amount of dependence/need I was promoting. I decided to stop playing with them when it hit me that I was cultivating an environment  where their imagination needed my imagination, and I was tired. I’m so happy I transitioned out of lead – player and into narrator, but it was a bit difficult. I felt so guilty saying no, then watching Benjamin struggle to know what to do with himself and his toys. The real ticker for me was knowing how much joy he got from our play time together. He was so happy. But, the reality is my job isn’t to…

Confessions of a Boy Mom

“Another boy?!” “Were you hoping for a girl??” “Are you gonna try again for a girl??” These are the questions I get asked everyday as we navigate through our activities. Our pictures show the beautiful glimpses of our life. The pretty, happy moments that are quite sporadic in between the messy toilets, batman pajamas, runny noses, fingers in noses and hands in pants. Oh the joys of being a boymom! We clean up well for social events, but there are definitely  confessions I can share. Here are my boymom confessions that I’m sure many can relate too! 1. Underwear Unwanted: Boys do not like underwear, or pants for that matter. They naturally find it more satisfying to throw their pants and undies to the wind whenever outside – not aware of any sort of indecent exposure laws. As soon as I let the boys outside, I’m prepared for them to…
