My Small-Space Learning Corner for Home Schooling

I’ve been slowly embarking/dipping my toes into the big waters of home schooling with mainly my 4.5 year-old. The almost-three-year-old is loving learning as well. I finally got around to setting up a learning corner for my boys to help keep them contained, focused and comfortable. It allows me to make the learning fun, and it’s a place they know they are sitting to learn. I’ve included the 5 items I needed to create my learning space for home schooling. Well, I don’t think it has to be a corner, that’s just what worked for us. I believe that having a space designated for a specific activity, like the table…

Preschool Curriculum Sets You Can Buy and Use

I’m embarking on the home school journey.  At first, I had a sense of urgency mixed with fear that I wouldn’t know what to teach my preschooler, and thus he’d be left behind, not learning what he should. I did some digging in Facebook groups, and I found some other moms to connect with who also home school, and depending on your state, mine was Washington, I had a difficult time finding a state-supplied curriculum. Like, I contacted and emailed school-district officials, who then sent me to sites I’d already visited with very vague resources on curriculum. I don’t know what state you are in, or the state rules, but the purpose of preschool is to prep for Kindergarten. There are a lot of Kindergarten tools out there, which you can use and back-track from. I’m actually planning on getting the A Beka K5 Homeschool set because it was referred to…

How I’m Teaching My Toddler Kindergarten Early

I’ve posted a few posts on early learning and homeschooling. One of my more popular post goes over how I’m teaching my toddler to read, and now I’m going to go over how we are learning Kindergarten early! I am jumping into Kindergarten curriculum because we are ready. I’ve got an eager learner, who wants to learn to spell everything, loves to write, and he has a huge appetite for stories. I can only tell so many stories, so I want him to be able to read them on his own. The difficult part for me, venturing into the home school idea, was how to know what to teach. What if I don’t teach him everything he’s supposed to know?? If I miss something, and he’s behind, it’s completely my fault! There are actually a to of resources when it comes to home schooling children, and I came across the…

3 Reading Games to Teach Your Toddler Boy to Read

I wrote a post on how I’m teaching my preschooler to read. I recently started focusing on reading because he’s taken an interest in spelling, and his attention span seems to be lengthening to where we can focus for longer periods of time to practice our letters and sounds. One thing I know about my four-year-old is that he loves a game. I can get him to do anything if I tell him he’s a super hero while he’s doing it. I came up with some fabulous games that encourage him to read, with out realizing that he’s even reading! First, we play, READING BATS! Yep, its Batman themed, along with hunting and capturing. My little boy loves a chase, so here’s what we do: I start by cutting paper into squares, or you can use index cards or something that is blank on both sides in a square-ish shape.…

How I am Teaching My Toddler to Read

We decided to focus on homeschooling our boys because we travel frequently, and we really enjoy being a part of their learning and education. My four-year-old (in 2 weeks!!) has shown a great interest in learning to read, sound out letters and spelling. His mind is working so fast, and he’s really picking up on things. I have a 3-part technique that I am using to teach him letters, sounds and sound combinations. I’ve also added a new post, My Small-Space Learning Corner for Home Schooling.  It’s our little learning space, and I go over what I have and where. I also wrote about preschool curriculum, to help guide you on what to teach if you are doing preschool at home. The first part is so simple, and it is working so well! LEAPFROG LEARNING DVD SET. It is worth every penny of the $9.99. It also comes with flashcards that…
