Peanut butter and jelly is an all-time favorite here. As in, almost-daily staple because my kids love it, and I actually love feeding it to them. Fat and protein in the peanut butter is amazing for growing brains. It keeps them satiated, helps build muscle and brain power, and the little bit of sugar from the jam gives them immediate energy! It also tastes amazing, and there are no negotiations when it comes to eating.
Sometimes I get bored making peanut butter and jelly, so to spice things up for back to school and make things just a little bit better, I came up with 5 ways to improve the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, plus I have a recipe for peanut butter and jelly bars!! They are so yummy, and healthy for packing in lunches or even breakfast.
Because I love the classics, I am using Jif® Natural Peanut Butter Spread and Smucker’s® Natural Strawberry Fruit Spread for our PB&J bars, in addition to all our sandwich creations. The natural peanut butter is super smooth, and it spreads well onto my slices, and the kids love the fruit spread taste! They always prefer the Jif Natural Peanut Butter Spread and Smucker’s Natural Strawberry Fruit Spread, because I’ve tried to give them other brands with major fails.
5 Ways To Make PB&J Better:
Add Yummy Fruit:
My boys love fruit. We devour it way too quickly, and it makes a great addition to a PB+J sandwich. Especially sliced strawberries, because they stay on the bread well, but you can also do blueberries, apple slices or raspberries.
Sprinkle It:
Sprinkles are a super fun topping you can add to make sandwiches more fun! My boys love to help put the sprinkles on, which makes them love their sandwich even more.
Wrap it:
Roll it up in crepe form! I prefer a crepe because it adds more protein, but you can also do a healthy tortilla, which makes it feel completely different from the standard sandwich, yet taste just as good!
Layer It:
Make it extra thick by adding an additional bread layer! This can really help with hungry boys who don’t like to sit and eat for very long. Rather than having to eat two sandwiches, they can eat more in one bite!
Toast It:
This changes the texture, so it makes it feel like a totally different sandwich all together, yet still tastes just as great! My personal favorite is to add different fruit layers, depending on what I have available because it coincides with the jam flavors and blends well with the peanut butter.
The classic PB+J doesn’t have to get old at all, and I think it is a classic for a reason, because it is so yummy! Let me know if you change yours up a bit, and if you have more ideas!
