Now that we have finally wrapped up from the holiday season, we have officially transitioned our home decor from the holiday explosion that it was, to a serene winter escape. But, not only is it incredibly time consuming to redecorate your home every season, but it also can become financially straining over the years. In such a modern and fast-paced society, it can feel as if we need to keep up with the rest of the world on essentially everything, even our home decor. Unfortunately, many of us may not have the money to drop on brand new decor each time the season changes, especially after the Christmas season. Instead, many people have been adopting a “Do it Yourself” attitude, and finding small hacks to save money and make use of what they already have lying around the house. So, as we make our way into the new year, hold…
I enjoying buying and making my christmas decor. I do a lot of shopping at the dollar store, get some staples and Walmart and Michaels, then have fun making little things to spice up the house. With Thanksgiving break this week, I love to use the extra time with the boys to make things together. Of course their idea of craft-time lasts about 5 minutes, but sometimes I can get them to sit for an activity for longer than 20 minutes. In my search for DIY holiday decor, I found some AMAZING tutorials on Pinterest. I thought I would compile all the best tutorials I’ve found on Pinterest! Well Joanna of HGTV’s Fixer Upper is really somebody I look up to. She is insanely creative, completely humble, and totally successful. In my attempt to be a better creative, I’ve put together a tutorial to decorate your home with all the Fixer Upper feels. Let’s let the obsession roll, and I hope this helps you achieve your inner Joanna dreams. This post contains affiliate links. First Tip: Create A Focal Point HGTV writes about how one of Joanna’s favorite tips is to create a focal point. When talking about the holidays, this usually means the mantle or where the Christmas tree is. Then, you can decorate around the focal point to tie the rest of the home together. Take a look at this set up Joanna did for the Magnolia House B&B: photography by Rachel Whyte What I love about this area is the simplicity in colors. The tree…
I’ve been so excited to decorate this year for the holidays, but you know what?? I can’t decide on an aesthetic!! I’m struggling to take a direction on whether I do a modern, minimal look, classic Christmas or soft and elegant. I was itching to do at least something, so I made these super simple wreaths. They are part natural and part artificial. I used natural rosemary as the main greenery, so they smell amazing and faux berries and flowers. Here’s what you need: Macrame/Hoop Rings: I grabbed mine at Walmart, which were the wooden for the more bohemian/natural look, and Amazon has the pretty metal ones. Get the wooden ones on Amazon too. If you want to use the traditional wreath wires, the dollar store has them! Floral Tape: I actually grabbed mine at the dollar store, and it was not that sticky, so this one is probably way…
I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping these days, and I WISH I would have stumbled upon Minted earlier. Seriously kicking myself. I could’ve let you all know about their beautiful pieces with FREE Shipping. Here are some of the best holiday decor options I’ve found on Amazon Prime: Holiday Pillow Covers: These are classic, farm-style I love the truck in this set! This set is a bit ligther, still with a super cute truck! Christmas Blankets: I’m obsessed with a brand-new, fuzzy blanket for the holidays! Here are some of the best frinds on Amazon Prime. Holiday Signs: Holiday Wreaths: Holiday Stockings: This one isn’t elligible for Prime because it is personalized, but thought it was super cute anyways! I was looking for more personalized stockings, and I found these, which are not on Amazon, but I think they are adorable! I am in love with this fawn-themed…
Organizing your home for back to school season can make your mornings and afternoons a million times easier. I had my first school season experience last year, and I learned a lot of lessons…the hard way. Having organized spaces for school work, back packs, shoes, socks and papers is incredibly helpful! I can’t tell you the papers I lost, the shoes I couldn’t find and the mis-matched socks my oldest wore. He even wore a uniform, and I still struggled to keep him appropriately dressed. Luckily, my middle one didn’t need a uniform, but he did need a snack, which was more like a full-on lunch. Let’s get into some amazing, and simple organization tips and tricks for getting ahead of the game for the school year: First, plan a backpack center like these. They are simple, and allow for a special place kids can hang their backpacks up on…
I turned a spare/storage bedroom into a home gym and play space a couple weeks ago. There is a built-in desk corner for working. It really is a happy place that is just mine. There is still some extra furniture and things from that we are storing and need to get rid of, but that’s what spring is about right? The gym flooring was super affordable from Amazon, I painted quick and cleared it out in just a couple days. I want the space super open. This way we can roll around, jump around and ultimately get lots of activity in. The super hot summer is coming here, so playing inside will be more of a norm for just a few months. The mirrors were light-weight mirrors I grabbed at Walmart for about $5 a piece. Command strips are being used to hold the mirrors up. I lined the corners,…

I have lots of memories of Thanksgiving as a child, where we would cozy up on the floor, picnic style near the adults table. It was so fun and comfortable to have our own space, where my cousins and I could laugh and play/eat. The adults had their own space for all that adult talk we weren’t interested in. Because I have such fond memories of our Thanksgiving picnic, I am completely sold on the tradition for my children, and I put together my own kids table for them this year, complete with a full-on coloring table cloth. I NEED them to stay busy for as long as possible, and being that they are 4.5, 3 and 1, I might get 15 minutes out of the whole thing, but sometimes that 15 minutes feels like an hour. First off, a kids table for Thanksgiving is a great place the kids…
