I started drinking coffee years ago in college, when my roommate introduced me to lattes. She was obsessed with them, so every Sunday morning before church, we would walk to the coffee shop to get our lattes. The weekly love-affair grew to a daily need as life got busy, I had various jobs as a barista, and I basically stopped sleeping as a mom. We all know the importance of our daily cup, but with that also comes some unwanted stains on our teeth.

When Smile Brilliant approached me to try their teeth whitening kit, I was super excited. My first thought was, “I want to get rid of these coffee stains!” Then I checked out their site, specifically this page that goes over everything you need to know before buying.

They sent me the kit, and the process starts with making your own molds, like at the dentist. My sister is a dental hygienist, and she was really impressed that you use the actual molds like at the dentist office.

You start with this puddy-like material, and put it in the upper and lower trays. Then, you follow the instructions on the kit, and push your teeth in them for a few minutes, until the puddy hardens. They also give you an extra set of the mold material, so if you accidentally mess up, you can try again. It wasn’t hard though.

Those are my molds for the top and bottom. Then, you send them back in the mail to Smile Brilliant, so they can create your own teeth whitening trays.

The brochure you see above has the instructions mapped out, and this is what the molds look like before you actually put them in your mouth.  Your teeth whitening trays come back in the mail as perfectly fitting trays!

There’s a lot of benefits to custom-fitting trays that I wasn’t really aware of. Here’s what their site says, and there’s a video you can watch if your unsure of whether a custom fitting tray is worth it.

Dentist Supplied Trays – If you choose to purchase from your dentist you will schedule an appointment to have your dental impressions taken and they will send it off to a dental lab for the trays to be created. Roughly 2 weeks later your trays will be ready for pickup.

When a customer purchases the Smile Brilliant at home teeth whitening tray creation kit everything can be done at home:

  • order the kit and it will arrive at your home in 2 business days
  • follow the instructions provided to make an impression of your upper and lower teeth and send it to the Smile Brilliant lab using the pre-addressed envelope which comes with pre-paid postage
  • 5 days after Smile Brilliant receives your dental impressions your trays will be created and shipped back to you

Benefits of choosing Smile Brilliant over the dentist include:

  • Significant cost savings
  • 30 day satisfaction guarantee
  • 2 year tray replacement warranty

I can tell you that the home teeth whitening actually works! I even have one syringe for the whitening and desensitizing gel left because I noticed a big difference, and I want to save those syringes for when the stains slowly come back!

One thing I want to point out is that I didn’t think my teeth were that sensitive, but I did notice sensitivity right away. There was some tingling on my gums when I used the whitening gel, but I contacted Smile Brilliant, and they said to try Vaseline on my gums, which helped! The also directed me to this informative page, where I learned why teeth are sensitive and what causes it. Even some healthy, yet acidic foods like oranges and grapefruit can increase sensitivity!

If you notice any sensitivity in your teeth, or are unsure if you have sensitive teeth, they have a version for sensitive teeth. I think that one would’ve been better for me, but I was able to manage it with the desensitizing gel.

This is my teeth before. Above and below:

My stains are more on the lower teeth, and now, I have a brighter white color!
