Breastfeeding and losing weight is a difficult task for almost every mama. The goal is to keep up your milk supply, while also losing the extra baby weight gained during pregnancy. This is exactly what your body is supposed to do after having a baby: use stored fat to help produce a healthy supply of breast milk.

START THE CHALLENGE NOW!

But, with all the processed and yummy treats available today, it is so easy to survive off a less-than-nutritious diet. We fill our plates with foods and dishes that are created for flavor and comfort, rather than nourishment. This is where breastfeeding mamas can have some issues because if your body is in a nutrient-deprived state, it won’t want to let go of fat as easily. You can force it to do so by eating too few calories, so it has to burn fat cells, but you can also make your body feel safe to let go of stored fat by giving it all the nutrients it needs! Eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods can be challenging as a mom with picky kids, a busy schedule, or even a picky husband. With the extra cooking and snacks around, it is so much easier to pick off the left overs of everyone else. That is why I created this protein smoothie challenge for breastfeeding mamas. (scroll down to start now!)

This challenge focuses on protein and nutrients with protein shakes. By replacing one meal or snack a day with a protein shake, you will feel fuller and more nourished! Your calories may even drop because you will feel more full on less calories, and your body will have more nutrients to use!

There are three protein powders I suggest for this challenge because each of these is safe for breastfeeding mamas. I HIGHLY encourage you to use one of these because they come complete with protein, greens, fruits, digestive enzymes and pre/probiotics. All of these ARE SO IMPORTANT for breastfeeding mamas!!

The first protein I suggest is Milk Dust.

It has a milk-boosting herb blend, plenty of protein, sugar-craving-busting herbs like Tumeric, Cinnamon Bark Root and minerals like Chromium which have all been used to balance blood sugar. In addition to all these fabulous items. I hand-picked specific vitamins like Folate (L-Methylfolate) because folate is still important during lactation! Almost just as important as in pregnancy. I also hand-picked vitamin B12 for energy, and super foods like Chlorella, Spirulina, Spinach, Blueberries and more. The protein powder is free of soy, gluten, dairy and corn. It is NON-GMO, Vegan and plant-based!! I highly recommend you check it out if you are craving sugar. It is only sweetened with Stevia, Monk Fruit and Organic Cane Juice, which means there is very little sugar, but it is very sweet, so you still get to drink something like a milkshake!

The second protein I suggest is Ora Organics.

This protein is a major player in my specialized nutrition program, The Postpartum Cure. I LOVE Ora Organics. They are unique in that everything they use is completely real, raw and organic. You don’t have to worry about any synthetic fillers or chemicals in the protein powder. This protein powder also comes with a complete amino acid profile, despite being a plant-based protein powder. Our bodies need this to support our cells, heal our bodies after birth and produce breast milk. In addition there is a great blend of greens like broccoli, kale, blueberry, blackberry, kale and pomegranate. What is super important in this powder is that they’ve added digestive enzymes, which help you digest and ABSORB the nutrients. These are little soldiers that help deliver the important nutrients to your blood stream, and in essence to your milk supply. This will promote a healthy body, functioning optimally and producing lots of milk! I’ve been using Ora for quite sometime, and I have lots of recipes you will find in the challenge and on the blog! This pumpkin pie protein shake is one of my newest!

The third protein I suggest is Majka:

This is a new protein powder on the market for breastfeeding mamas. I checked out all their ingredients and contacted the company to ensure everything is safe, and it is! This protein powder was created by a mama needing to nourish her body on a hectic and busy schedule – while breastfeeding. Finding the right protein powder was difficult, so she made her own. The special aspect of this protein powder is that it has a lactation boosting blend. This is unique to Majka, which will help you boost your milk supply, while also supplying your body with the protein it needs! This protein powder comes with a pre/probiotic blend that supports your digestive system and immune system, while also giving you the digestive enzymes you need to process the greens and fruits.
