Soup season is here, and soups are an amazing meal for breastfeeding mamas because they offer a lot of nutrients. Soup is also so simple to make and throw together, as well as being cozy and comforting on those long, tired days with a newborn.
I had all my babies in the fall or winter, and lived in the Seattle area during that time. I LOVED soups in the fall and winter because of the comforting, delicious meal that makes the whole house smell good. I also eat most of my soups out of a mug, so it was an easy, one-handed option while breastfeeding. If you make your soup with bone broth, the healing benefits after birth are AMAZING! I equate my quick weight loss while breastfeeding to the protein shakes I drank and all the soup I drank! I LOVE both, and both are amazing for nourishing postpartum mamas, as well as helping with weight loss.
Bone broth for healing postpartum:
Bone broth has so many healing benefits for postpartum mamas, I just want to list some of them to encourage you to make your soups with bone broth.
- boost immunity
- fights inflammation (which also means helps with healing)
- provides extra protein (key to weight loss and health while breastfeeding)
- contains important amino acids found in collagen like glutamine
- contains the amino acid glycine, which helps with sleep (when you do get a chance to sleep!)
- Other essential nutrients pulled from the bone marrow while making it
There are vegetable broths that are wonderful for making soups as well. Vegetable broths and vegan broths are full of antioxidants, phytonutrients and more that carry their own weight in nutritional density. This is why soups are awesome for healing and nourishing while recovering and breastfeeding.
Okay, let’s get into the breastfeeding, nourishing soups! I have some more amazing soup and chili recipes for breastfeeding and weight loss in my program, which is a breastfeeding diet program for nourishing, strengthening and healing postpartum. It is called The Postpartum Cure, and many mamas are having a lot of success losing weight, healing and keeping up their milk supply!
