Sweets are my thing around the holidays. Chocolate covered everything, eggnog in my coffee, and cans of whipped cream were inhaled. Combine that with the big, family meals and I’ve got myself into a new feeling of full. Not just the stuffed feeling, but the groggy, puffy, bloated for days feeling. It’s not fun, but luckily there are some ways you can detox those holiday meals away. When I say detox, I don’t mean fast. Many think of detoxing as not eating, but I think of it as providing nutrients and water, while eliminating unwanted sugars, chemicals, and carb overload. First Step: Load up on “Negative Calorie” foods  These foods have calories, but they are so light in calories that the amount of energy your body spends digesting them is around the same or more than consuming them. And, these foods are super good for you. When detoxing, you want…

Burning calories is key to losing the baby weight. You want to get your metabolism running and burning as much as possible to shed those extra pounds. I have a go-to home workout that I use to achieve the cardio challenge I love when going on a run, while also strengthening my muscles. The key for me, is to have a workout that I know is challenging every time, I can do anywhere, and I breathe hard. Those are the essentials. This workout has you do the move for a period of time. I do this because you want to try and get more reps in each time you do the workout to ensure you are challenging yourself. This is a tough one. No laying around doing bridges while watching your favorite show. This is a sweat-tastic workout to torch those winter-food calories that are too sneaky. These moves are also…

Even in our own home we are running from dishes to wiping bottoms, to emails and back to dishes again. There’s a rare and sweet opportunity when we sneak off to our favorite hiding place, which lasts about 1 minute before we hear a disaster brewing. Eating healthy is difficult being so busy, so here are: 5 ways to eat healthier on the go: Focus on What You Can Grab: Fill your fridge with healthy items you can grab. These are things like fresh-cut fruit, protein shakes and juices, apples or cheese sticks. I personally love these Odwalla Juices, the Groovin Greens Fruite and Veggie drink because its straight up clean and pure. Drinking vitamins is one of your best choices for…

You can eat the right fuel sources to burn fat after your meal and in between your workouts. With the proper nutrient combinations, you are giving your body the energy it needs to build muscle, rather than store calories. The problem most of us have is the time to make and prepare the meals we need. I know for myself, I don’t have time to chop up seven different stir fry vegetables. But, there is a solution of faster meal options for us moms that will help us continue achieving our fitness goals, rather than giving up to the bowls of macaroni and cheese or chicken nuggets. First, let’s talk about what type of meals burn fat. There’s a popular trend…

Losing the pooch after baby is one of the most difficult aspects of postpartum weight loss. Sometimes it feels as though we can lose weight everywhere, BUT THE BELLY! The pooch can linger too long. But there are some honest realities when it comes to the pooch that need to be understood, to move forward and work that belly back down. Encourage them to come back together as much as possible. In this program,  you can follow along with Pilates-based, diastasis repairing workouts. I recently wrote about how I lost the baby weight by the 6 weeks postpartum. I am more than concerned that post makes the process sound easy. It’s not easy. Losing the baby weight is hard. Losing weight in general is hard. Keeping a fitness routine as a mom is hard. A gym is expensive and working out at home with kids is not fun. Losing weight after baby, while breastfeeding, is HARD! Staying motivated to lose the baby weight isn’t the hardest challenge we will face as mothers. Managing our homes, keeping our children alive, dealing with the wining, protecting our homes from sheer destruction and attempting to be a decent adult who wears clothes is actually really hard too. As moms we are thrown into a whole new world of hurdles to jump over and it never ends. Let’s jump into why specifically losing the baby weight is…

Gaining only the belly weight and recommended extra weight is near impossible with intense cravings, insomnia, aversions to all things healthy, obsessions with specific flavors, and exhaustion. The first trimester is the most difficult for me. I have the all-day nausea that sets in at about 11 am. It then gets worse and worse, yet I am plagued with this idea that eating will make me feel better. It does for the moment I take a bite of bread and cheese, crackers and cheese, nachos, straight cheese. Anything with cheese and salt and carby is what seems to do the trick for 15 minutes. Then I lay down, only to get back up to go to the kitchen 45 minutes later. This cycle lasts about 15 weeks for me, and I gain way more weight than I should in the first trimester because I’m like a carb-and-cheese vacuum. Needless to…

Three kids in less than 4 years. My oldest was about 3.5 when my youngest was born just 10 months ago. Since my second pregnancy, I had a little bump on the top of my belly button. I didn’t think much of it because my belly button stuck out a bit during pregnancy, so I thought it would take time to go back in. Well, I got pregnant with my third baby, and I didn’t think much of it because my belly button just stuck out again during pregnancy, and I am now 10 months postpartum, still with a bump on my belly button. My husband actually never really noticed it because its subtle, but you can feel it. I finally told him it was there, and he told me it’s a hernia. What?! Off to Google I went for some learning and research. According to some sources (my husband…
